We've Been Hit!

So damn but I was enjoying laying the smackdown on the league like so many layers of tar and feathers, but then we had to go and get our egg-laying butts handed to us twice in two weeks. The early bird may get the worm, but for us, the early game has been nothing but a pain in our aerodynamic tail feathers. Thank goodness we get a break from that time slot for a while - I guess the Wildfowl don't really start getting down until after dark. This bodes ill for our playoff chances.

On the bright side, there were lots of great individual performances during these two weeks and we nearly made off with both victories. I suppose I will be a Big Bird and actually acknowledge the quality (Caw!-lity?) play of our opponents, too. Last week's game against Watch Your Balls! got of to a cracking good start as we built a 6-2 lead. But some lackadaisical play came home to roost and we squandered our chances on our way to a 6-7 defeat. We quickly regained form in the next game, scratching out a 7-3 win, but things went south quickly after that. A 3-7 defeat in the final game spelled our first defeat of the season and we dejectedly drank our way through the rest of the evening's matches.

Looking to make amends this week, we came beak-to-beak with archrivals Boccelism, 5-time champions of the league and undefeated so far this season. But there was no fear in our little avian hearts. We swooped in as proud as eagles, even as we quickly fell behind. With the score 4-6 in Game 1, Hawkeye and I were incubating 2 points with 2 more still to roll. But each of us missed, and the Fowl Ladies were unable to provide succor in the end game for another 6-7 loss. Things changed in game 3, as we tried to prove that their brand of disease holds no sway over our kind. Alas, it all came crashing down to earth in Game 3 as we came up one shot short in another 6-7 setback.

So we find ourselves at 4-2 on the season now, with only 2 matches to go, and only 1 of those in April. Look like we will have to find a way to keep our wings warm before the playoffs get going and we let our migratory instinct guide us to a title.

Wildfowl to Jump Arthur Boccerelli's Shark

Things have been a bit quiet around The Nest recently. In their infinite wisdom, the Floyd schedulers gave us a complete month off between games. Our last outing ended in the triumphant thrashing of the JTBP, 7-0, 7-4. Like a hawk circling at 200 ft., we saw their tiny rodent form on the ground below and swooped in for a quick snack before our mini-hibernation (note to self: do birds hibernate? Check Wikipedia).

With the return of warmer weather we would like to welcome back our migratory brethren who wintered in Mexico or Brazil or Del Boca Vista. I think you'll find things mostly as you left them, with the Marauding Wildfowl poised to peck the living shit out of every team in our path. Tonight's unlucky recipient is Arthur Boccerelli and the Happy Days who, at 0-3, currently sit at the bottom of the league table. It is our intention to keep them there, sitting on the egg of victory until it hatches into a chick that we will feed with our own regurgitated nourishment until it is strong enough to take its its fledgling foray into the world. That should happen around the end of April - perfect timing for the coming of the playoffs and our majestic flight to a championship. And nothing except the onset of bird flu or the opening of hunting season can stop us.
